Two years ago I was staring death in the face.  My liver tumors were growing out of control and all chemo regimens had ceased to work.  We went back and tried previous drugs and even a few "off label" protocols.  There was no response and my oncologist felt that hospice was the only option that I had left.  There was nothing more that he could do for me.  My husband and I came home and thumbed through hospice in the yelloow pages and began to interview, made final funeral arangements, and wrote or called family and friends.  As well wishes poured in from across the country, so did one very important phone call.  Gordon, a friend from Wisconsin who was also battling colon cancer told me of his physician that was using a fairly novel treatment to directly target liver tumors.  From across the country, I made a phone call that proved very fruitful.  After speaking a short while and learning more about the procedure, it was felt that I might be a candidate and I was put in contact with a local clinic.  I had an initial evaluation and discovered that I was indeed a candidate.  The simple procedure took less than half a day, caused some abdominal discomfort, and a great deal of fatigue for the next several days.  Compared with previous chemo regimens, it was a piece of cake! Within 12 weeks, my tumors had shrunk by 30% and in just over 5 months they were down to 65%.  Two years later they remain completely stable!!

Before the procedure, my abdomen was horribly swollen and I looked very pregnant.  My skin tone was taking on an odd hue and I was always extremely tired.  My face was puffy.  I felt totally  miserable.  In these past two years, my treatment with SIR-Spheres has given me my life back.  I've supported and given hope to countless other cancer patients, have appeared on the Today Show, attended Katie Couric's Motown Gala for colon cancer, have become a Certified Grief Counselor for hospice and an Advance Care Planning Facilitator, have lobbied on Capitol Hill for increased funding for cancer research with ACS, LAF, NCCS, and have returned to school to complete my Master's Degree in Social Work.  In addition to that, I've witnessed my oldest daughter graduate and start college.  I taught my youngest daughter to drive and lived to see her sixteenth birthday.  I celebrated my 39th birthday and my 21st wedding anniversary.  Without these "little magic beads" none of this would have been possible.  Thank you, SIR-Spheres!
